About Norma
I am Norma Mulligan, an artist of seventy-eight years, and I have spent a good part of my life with a brush or a needle in my hand. I work in oils and acrylics, and my heart belongs to the landscapes and coastlines of England and Ireland — a lane heavy with spring blossom, a wood full of bluebells, a lighthouse standing firm against a grey Atlantic sky.
I paint what moves me: the quiet country road, the changing weather over the sea, the light of an evening sky. I have never been one for grand statements. I would rather capture a place as it truly feels — peaceful, familiar, and a little bit timeless.
The embroidery
Painting is a joy, but embroidery is where my truest craft lies. Over the years my needlework has been kind enough to earn the notice of some of the finest embroiderers around the world, who have been generous in calling it highly skilled work. It is slow, patient making — thread by thread — and I am proud of every piece. A gallery of my embroidery will be added to these pages very soon.
A note on the website
This website is a new adventure for me. At my age one does not have to become modern, but I rather wanted to — so that anyone who enjoys my paintings can find them in one place. Thank you for taking the time to look. It means a great deal.
